Frequently asked questions.
DO I NEED YOGA EXPERIENCE?
Not at all! My clients have a wide range of experience levels. I will incorporate practices that honor your ability and preferences.
IS THIS LIKE YOGA IN A STUDIO?
Since we meet 1:1 it will not have the same in-studio, group class feel. We sit together and talk about how you feel body, mind, and heart. We move through different practices such as breathing, movement, and mediation.
HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM PRIVATE, ONE ON ONE YOGA?
Private yoga mostly focuses on poses (asana), alignment, flowing, and physical fitness. Our sessions are based on your goals, address you as a whole person, and will involve numerous aspects of yoga to bring you closer to said goal. We focus on stillness, the breath, body scans, modifying and adjusting postures for imbalances and different forms of relief from common stresses.
HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM TALK THERAPY?
The somatic process involved in yoga therapy, and yoga in general, works with the body-mind-spirit connection. I do not diagnose any conditions or behaviors, but support you as you are, from the lens of yoga.
Where do we meet?
I meet with clients virtually via Zoom and in-person.
how often should i book sessions with you?
The frequency is really up to you! Most clients schedule weekly or bi-monthly sessions depending on how much support they’d like as they reach their personalized goals.
do i need equipment?
Nope! From time to time I’ll ask you to bring a blanket or pillow but you don’t need anything special. Many clients like to bring yoga mats and blocks, but if you don’t have them, no problem! We can improvise.
Do you have a monthly package?
You can purchase sessions in 3 packs, 5 packs or pay as you go. This work encourages us to go with the flow of your progress. We have check in’s to assess what is working, what isn’t and sometimes you may want to try something out for a few weeks before meeting again.
how long have you been a certified yoga teacher?
I finished 200-hour training in 2014 through CorePower Yoga. I’ve been teaching classes, workshops, and facilitating training programs since 2014 as well. I started seeing yoga therapy clients under the guidance of my mentors while in training in 2017. I completed my yoga therapy certification in 2020.
What is your favorite resource for meditations?
I love a good guided meditation. I usually meditate with mudras or while I journal. I find it helpful to give my mind a point of focus. I currently follow Alex Elle on Insight Timer, who I really love. She uses breath work, writing, affirmations, and meditation. Here’s a link if you’re interested!
What is a Mudra?
Mudras are gestures of the hands, face, and body that help awaken and realign our energy flow and cultivate specific qualities. I utilize Hasta (hand) Mudras. They can be used throughout the day or during your meditation practice. Really, whenever you’d like. Their use and prevalence has evolved overtime. Traditional Mudras often include the whole body, even dance. I use Mudras paired with guided meditations, mindful breathing, and body scans. They are one of the many resources I can help you understand how to use. Here’s a helpful article by Linda Sparrowe and Nubia Teixeira which will give you a more in depth explanation if you’re interested.
Do you teach Asana classes?
I teach throughout the week at several Denver studios! Follow me on Instagram to stay updated on asana offerings.
HOW HAS YOGA THERAPY HELPED YOU IN YOUR LIFE?
My yoga practice started with a focus on the physical but that changed very quickly. I noticed the mental health benefits and wanted to dive deeper into all of the elements yoga has to offer. I worked on and off with yoga therapists and found healing in the process.
I can more easily manage anxiety and it’s comforting to know I have everything I am seeking - relief, ease, happiness, contentment, awareness, the whole universe - already within me. These ancient practices are a technology to unlock it all.
Yoga therapy is personal for everyone. Each student has their own experience and my hope is that you’re curious and open enough to begin this process with me. My goal is that it becomes a part of your life that you tend to on your own after our time together.
Do you offer discounts?
A sliding scale is available! I don’t want funds to be a barrier to receiving services. I am happy to chat with you about your situation and financial concerns.
